$6 OIT - Service & Support Fee Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

There is a large deficit on the costs of technical personnel, licensing, support, maintenance, and hardware associated with our communications network. This fee does not alleviate the entirety of the burden, but it is necessary to ensure essential business functions remain available to the University and its employees.

This fee is for an active employee that has a NetID, UNR email, and is entitled to the use of our license group including the suite of Microsoft licenses.

No, the fees are generated electronically and linked through the unique employee ID number and is not duplicated. One fee per unique ID. If an employee is paid from multiple Worktags the fee will be assessed to Worktag with a greater percentage of salary cost.

The billing for the fee is created with a complex coding program to ensure security and accuracy. OIT is aware that this information will be helpful in resolving issues that have arisen from specific Worktags. We are working on a way to extract the data needed so it can be provided to the fiscal officers. Currently, the grant Worktag information has been provided to your unit fiscal officer. The non-grant Worktags information will be provided to the unit fiscal officers as soon as possible.

UNR does not currently allocate any portion of F&A from grants for OIT support. As a result, it has negatively impacted IT resources when grants have not been properly budgeted for these costs. Currently there is no resolution on allocation of F&A funds to OIT for these services. However, we are working on a meeting of senior leadership to address this issue.

No, at present, there is no centralized or state funds allocated for the communication network.

No, STF funds are highly regulated and are used to benefit the students. They pay for classroom equipment and technology that directly benefits the student body and do not contribute to defraying these costs. Both the ASUN and GSA have members that sit on the committee that oversee these funds. The OIT Service and Support Fee is an employee-based fee and not applied to students.

No, the fee was approved to help mitigate the risk of program default. This fee was accurately applied to the department where the active employee is allocated their salary as this is a cost associated with employment.

The Comptroller, Provost Office, as well as the Budget Office issued approvals for this fee.

Not currently. The fee is a per employee fee regardless of how often you use the system. If you are using the UNR network and have an account, NetID, email, Microsoft license, this charge applies. The fee is only active while the employee is active. When active employment ends and the employee is offboarded the fee ends.

The Worktag can be changed by updating the Worktag through a UCaaS Service and Support Billing Account/Worktag Modification Request. Any charges that have been posted to accounts must be transferred at the department level as OIT does not have access to your accounts.
