Recommended App Protection for Power Apps Owners

Summary

If you are the sole owner of a Power App in the University's 365 environment, learn how to protect the services it provides when/if you separate from the University.

Body

If your UNR Office 365 account is listed as the sole owner of a Microsoft Power Apps application in the University’s Office 365 environment, any services it provides are at risk of being automatically decommissioned by Microsoft when/if your Office 365 account ever gets deactivated by your separation from the University.

Recommended Protection

In order to protect your Power Apps application and any services it may be providing to the University, it is strongly recommended that you add a co-owner account to your App. The Office of Information Technology has created a co-owner account with the display name “UNR Power Apps” and email/username/lookup value of unrpwrapps@unr.edu for your use.

When/if you separate from the University, and your NetID is eventually deleted from University systems, all of the Apps that are not “co-owned” by the UNR Power Apps account will also be deleted.

Adding the UNR Power Apps account as a co-owner to your application is only necessary if you want an App to remain functional in Office 365 after your separation from the University.

How to Add the UNR Power Apps Account as a Co-Owner

  1. Log into Power Apps in the Office 365 portal or directly at https://make.powerapps.com/

  2. Locate the App you wish to protect, right-click on the App and select Share.
Right-click menu with Share option highlighted

  3. Search for unrpwrapps@unr.edu
Share window with unrpwrapps@unr.edu typed into the email address field

  4. Select the unrpwrapps@unr.edu user, check the Co-owner checkbox, then click the Share button at the bottom.
Share window with UNR Power Apps added to list of new users, and a check in the Co-owner checkbox

If you no longer wish to keep a Power Apps application, as the owner you can refer to Microsoft's instructions for deleting your app
