Telephone Line Policy

Policy

A telephone service may not be shared between devices.  All telephone devices (phone, fax, etc.) must have it's own unique connection to the Campus Telephone System.

Reason

All telephone lines have a direct relationship to the building floor and room where they are located to the 911 emergency reporting system.  Once an emergency call is made, the emergency dispatcher immediately knows from where the call was placed.  The integrity of this system must be maintained for health and safety concerns.  Secondly, the campus telephone system is a digital system.  Splicing additional wires to a service cable, can cause an antennae effect on the telephone line disrupting service or call quality.

Resolution

Where spliced lines occur, they must be replaced by dedicated service to each device that exists on the telephone network.
