The University of Nevada, Reno has adopted Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor as our online proctoring service provider to ensure the academic integrity of online quizzes and exams.
Respondus LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser is a browser that locks down the testing environment. When students take an exam using LockDown Browser, they are unable to print, copy, access other programs/applications, take screenshots, visit other websites (except those specified in the exam setting), or exit an exam before submission.
LockDown Browser is similar to other standard browsers, but with limited functions. Students need to download the LockDown Browser in order to take exams that require the use of LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor.
Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a step further to the LockDown Browser. It uses the webcam and microphone to records students’ screen activities and testing behavior while they are taking the exam using LockDown Browser. Instructors can view the recordings and review details of the testing process after the exam is submitted.
Support for Respondus is managed by the Office of Digital Learning. Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor is accessed via the student’s class in WebCampus.
Access and Support
For quizzes/exams taking place on WebCampus, students will need to install LockDown Browser in order to take any exam that requires its use. The learning management system (WebCampus) or homework manager program (e.g., Pearson MyLab) in which the instructor created the exam and the device they use to take the exam (e.g., iPad) will determine how they install and use Lockdown Browser.
