WIP Contingent Worker Minor

Minors between the ages of 14-17 may volunteer, work for pay, or receive independent study/research credits for working in UNR research laboratories. There are limitations as to how many hours they can work and what hazards they can or cannot be exposed to.

Minors may not be left alone in a laboratory and must be supervised at all times. If a minor is in a group setting, at least one person, preferably the supervisor or program lead, must be fingerprint background checked. Regarding minors being alone with others in a laboratory setting, those adult employees or volunteers must be fingerprinting background checked every 6 years by UNR Police Services and receive annual training on recognizing abuse and neglect of children.

Below is a checklist of the policies to read and review while determining the minor’s project as well as approvals before minors start working in the lab. Minors may have additional training(s) after approval.
