Adobe Products on the Virtual Desktops

This information pertains only to the virtual desktop environments. It does not affect Office Computer Remote Access.

Adobe Acrobat is being removed from all Virtual Desktops entirely. PDF document reading and form-filling will be handled by the free, fast Microsoft-recommended Chromium Edge browser. To open any PDF just double-click on the file and it will automatically open in the Edge browser. The icon for Edge looks like this:

If an application lacks a ‘Save As…’ PDF option, a free, reliable PDF printer called CutePDF Writer is now present on all Remote Services collections. The icon for the new printer looks like this:

Why is PDF handling changing?

The Adobe suite of products in these remote environments has never been officially supported by the vendor, and though the Remote Services team has been able to overcome obstacles with Adobe products for the last 10 years, the new version of Adobe and the expiration of the older functional license has caused the team to run out of solutions. Adobe Acrobat DC Pro version 20 specifically has new licensing and technical issues that make it unsupportable. If you absolutely need Adobe production functionality please refer to the OIT Adobe Creative Cloud support page. Creative Cloud contains Acrobat DC Pro among the offered applications.
