Finish Setting up your Surface Device

Before you Begin: Connect the Surface to the Internet. If you need to repair the connection, you will also need the administrator rights provided when the Surface was set up.

Check the connection

  1. Select the Windows key, type Settings, then press Enter. Select Accounts on the left.

  2. Scroll down on the Accounts page and select Access work or school.

  3. Select the row displaying your university email address.

  4. If you see the Info button skip to the Sync the Surface Section of the article, otherwise proceed to the Repair the Connection instructions.

Repair the Connection

  1. The connection can be repaired by either A) downloading and running a batch file as administrator or B) running a command in the Terminal (Admin).
    1. Download and Run a Batch File
      1. Download our UNR Device Enrollment file from NevadaBox, you will be prompted to log in with your NetID and password to access the file on NevadaBox.
      2. Locate the file on your Surface Device right click on the file and select Run as Administrator
      3. A black window will pop up and prompt you to press any key to continue at which point the window will auto close or you may be prompted to sign in with your NetID and password.

    2. Run a Terminal (Admin) Command
      1. Right click the Windows logo on the taskbar.

      2. From the menu, select Terminal (Admin). Do not select plain Terminal directly above it. Select Yes when Windows asks for permission.

      3. Confirm that the Terminal (Admin) tab at the top begins with "Administrator:"

      4. Run the following command, you can copy and paste this directly into the window:
        deviceenroller.exe /c /AutoEnrollMDM ​​

        Note: Once the command has run the cursor will move to a new line. There is no progress bar or confirmation. That is normal and means the command ran. Do not run it again. You may now close the Terminal.

  2. Wait about 10 minutes to confirm the repair has completed. During this time keep the Surface Awake and connected to the Wi-Fi, you may continue to use it as normal during this time.

  3. Once the 10 minutes are complete run through the steps to look for the Info button to once more to confirm the repair has completed at which point you may proceed to the Sync the Surface directions.

Sync the Surface

  1. Select the Info button.

  2. Scroll to the Device sync status section at the bottom of the page an press Sync.

  3. The Sync button will now be greyed out and and the sync will be completed once the Last Attempted Sync shows a Time and Date.
  4. You have now completed setting up your Surface! You may now close out of the Settings window and use your Surface as normal.
    Please Note: Managed Applications and class links may continue to appear in the background for the next half hour but will not interrupt your active use.
