MAC Address

The MAC/Physical Address is a unique ID associated with the network adapter on your computer, gaming console, or streaming device. It is useful for our OIT Technicians to know your MAC Address so that they can find you on the network or register your device on the ResHall Network.

Finding Your Computer's MAC Address on a PC

The following steps will assist you in finding the wired and wireless MAC/Physical Addresses in Windows 10.

  1. On your keyboard, press the Win Key and r at the same time to bring up the Run Dialog Box.

  2. In the window that appear on the bottom-left hand corner of your screen, type cmd and Click OK.

  3. A terminal window with white text on black background will appear. In this window, type ipconfig /all and press Enter.

  4. A long list of information will appear. Look for the heading that begins Ethernet adapter (if you are hard-wired into the network) or Wireless LAN Adapter (if you are on the wireless network). In the detail below, look for Physical Address. The string of letters and numbers next to that is your MAC Address.

Finding Your Computer's MAC Address on a Mac

These instructions will help you find the MAC address on your Apple Computer.

Please note: Not all Apple Laptops have an on-board Ethernet enabled network card. If you are using an external Ethernet Adapter, please contact the OIT Support Center.

  1. From the desktop, click on the Network icon near the top right of the screen, and select Open Network Preferences…

  2. Select the network type you are connected to (either Ethernet or Wi-Fi) and click on the Advanced button.

  3. From the top row of buttons, select Hardware and your MAC address is the first entry.
