Your computer must be connected to the UNR network (via Ethernet cable or
Eduroam). If your computer is not connected to our network, you will not have access to any of the network printers on the print server.
Network Printers that are available through the Print Server can be added and used on Mac computers. In order to add the network printer, you will need to have the hostname of the specific printer you need to map. If you don’t know the hostname to the network printer, please contact the OIT Support Center and a technician will be able to assist you.
If you do know the hostname, please follow these instructions.
Installing Network Printer Drivers on a Mac
- From the Desktop, click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner of the screen and select System Settings…
- From this menu select Printers & Scanners and select the Add Printer, Scanner or Fax... button.
NOTE: You may need to scroll down when initially opening the System Settings window to see the Printers & Scanners tab.
- Select IP (the globe icon) from the menu on the top of the window. Fill in the following information.
- Address: Hostname of the Printer you are connecting to in the form of hostname.rd.unr.edu
- Protocol: HP Jetdirect – Socket
- Queue: Leave this field blank
- Name: This can be whatever you want.
- Location: This can also be whatever you want.
- Use: Your Mac will autofill this field.
- Once all of the information is filled out. Click Add.
If this is the first time you have added the printer to the computer, this process may take a few minutes. This is normal. If the printer doesn’t become available after this process is complete, please
report the issue.
