Domain and Trust Relationship Errors

Your University-owned computer has likely fallen off the UNR domain if you receive one of the following errors after logging onto your University-owned computer:

"The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."
"The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship."
"We can't sign you in with this credential because your domain isn't available. Make sure your device is connected to your organization's network and try again."

Troubleshooting Steps for On-Campus Computers

  1. Ensure that the computer is plugged in with an Ethernet cable, and the cable is securely connected to the computer and the Ethernet wall port
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Let the computer update if needed.
  4. Try to sign in again.
    • If you are still unable to log in, try UNR\NetID (e.g. UNR\jsmith) as the username and NetID password in the password field
    • If you are still unable to log in, try NetID@unr.edu (e.g. jsmith@unr.edu) as the username and NetID password in the password field
  5. If the above login attempts did not succeed, have a coworker attempt to sign in with their NetID and password.

If the issues persist, please read on for information on rejoining the UNR domain.

Rejoining to the UNR Domain

Domain issues occur most often when the computer has not been used for a substantial amount of time. The following options will get the computer back on the domain.

On-Campus Computers

Submit a ticket to Rejoin the UNR Domain.

Off-Campus Computers

If you are primarily using the University-owned computer off-campus and logging in via your NetID, you will need to periodically bring the computer to campus and connect to the University network via Ethernet. After plugging the Ethernet cable in, restart your and let all updates run. This measure should be taken every 30 days to prevent domain issues.
