Connecting to your Work Computer Remotely - PC

Once your office PC has been configured, these instructions will assist you in connecting to your office PC from your home PC.

Connect to the VPN

For increased security all remote connections require you to connect to the university VPN (Virtual Private Network) on your home computer prior to initiating any remote connections.

Establish a Direct Connection to Your Office PC

  1. From the Start Menu search for Remote Desktop Connection and launch the application.

  2. When the application launches, click on Show Options to display the full list of preference tabs.

  3. Under the General tab, enter the following information:

    Computer: The IP Address of your Office Computer. 
    User name: UNR\NetID (Ex: UNR\ealderson

  4. (Optional) If you utilize multiple monitors remotely and wish to display to all of them select the Display tab and check the Use all my monitors for the remote session checkbox.  Otherwise skip to Step 5.

  5. From the Advanced tab, click on the Settings... button under Connect from Anywhere.

  6. Enter the following connection settings: 

    Select Use these RD Gateway server settings
    Server Name: gateway.unr.edu
    Logon Method: Select Ask for password (NTLM)
    Check Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses 
    Check Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer 

    Once completed, click OK

  7. Navigate back to the General tab, and click Save As... to save the RDP file that will remember these settings in the future.

  8. Click on the Connect button to access your remote computer.

Video and Audio conferencing should be done on your local/home computer as your local webcam and microphone cannot connect to your work computer.
